Over the years, Dr. Michael Eklund has received numerous awards and honors for his prestigious work in oral surgery. Listed below are some of the highlights of his career.  

• Placed the first temporary anchorage device (TAD) in the world in 1983.  This procedure generated a profound paradigm shift in how skeletal anchorage could be used for dental implantology and was the basis for many of the procedures used today.
• Voted by dental peers to be included in Texas Monthly Magazine’s list of Texas Super Oral Surgeons for five years in a row (2005 – 2009)
• H Texas Magazine Top Oral Surgeon for five years in a row (2005 – 2009)
• Greater Houston Dental Society Cooksey Award (1994)
• Has removed over 100,000 wisdom teeth
• Has placed more than 6,000 dental implants
• Diplomate, American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
• Fellow, International Congress of Oral Implantology
• Fellow, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology

• All members of the Southwest Oral & Implant Surgery team are certified as oral surgery anesthesia assistants. 
• Southwest Oral & Implant Surgery is certified by the Texas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Office Anesthesia Evaluation Program.
