Meet Dr. Eklund, D.D.S., M.S. 

Dr. Michael K. Eklund hails from Amarillo, Texas and grew up in the nearby small town of Panhandle. He attended Texas Tech University as an undergraduate and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, where he graduated with honors in 1971. He received his Master of Science (M.S.) degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1975.

Dr. Eklund completed his postgraduate residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, and completed a three month rotation at HMS North Wales Hospital. Dr. Eklund is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Eklund has been in private practice in Houston since 1975. In addition to his full scope private practice, Dr. Eklund has a special interest in dental implants, wisdom tooth removal, dentoalveolar surgery, and intravenous (IV) sedation. Throughout his 34-year career, Dr. Eklund has placed thousands of dental implants and removed over 100,000 wisdom teeth. 

Dr. Eklund is active in many scientific, medical, and charitable organizations. In addition to his numerous professional honors, Dr. Eklund is a highly respected speaker who is often asked to lecture on the latest advances in dental implants.

• Placed the first temporary anchorage device (TAD) in the world in 1983.  This procedure generated a profound paradigm shift in how skeletal anchorage could be used for dental implantology and was the basis for many of the procedures used today.
• H Texas Magazine Top Oral Surgeons for five years in a row (2005 – 2009)
• Voted by dental peers to be included in Texas Monthly Magazine’s list of Texas Super Oral Surgeons for five years in a row (2005 – 2009)
• Greater Houston Dental Society Cooksey Award (1994)
